I didn’t know that he’d written a book. I feel like a failure as a fan. Kay,I’m exaggerating. But seriously, No idea that he had a book. I bought & read it last night. It’s not crazy long, there are a lot of photos and captions and copies of legit lyric sheets. It’s pretty cool, no lie. The text part is my favourite. It’s so easy to write people off as idiots, but let’s face it, he’s a fucking genius this guy, he knows it too. There’s so much I want to share with you about it because it’s really really good. You learn things about him, of course, things I never really knew. Things about how some lyrics/songs/videos came about. We all know it was hard for him to break into the business, but even after he came into it there was still so much he had to put up with.
My favourite part? Undoubtedly, wholeheartedly my favourite part: the link between Slim Shady, Eminem and Marshall Mathers.
“Let’s just say
‘Just dont give a fuck’ is Slim shady.
Eminem is ‘lose yourself,’
and ‘mockingbird’ is Marshall”
It’s so perfect. he talks about how you can hear the difference between the three even if you’re not really focusing on the message of the song or every lyric. What else did I learn? He’s so hilarious. No lie. I seriously laughed out loud several times, even when something was so stupid so he added [kidding] after the sentence. I died. Each time. So good.
The intro is great. He talks about Proof a lot, and honestly, it’s heartbreaking. There’s one point when he talks about Proof’s funeral and how he would go around and thank everyone for coming out. He didn’t realize until later that these people weren’t there to support him, they weren’t there for him, but for Proof. Everyone was grieving. And he didn’t see that, he only saw his own grief.
“He was the only reason I
stopped getting my ass
whipped. I’m not going to
sugarcoat it—he was my ghetto
pass.”
“This is the dude who, when I was broke as fuck came over to the crib and was like, “What the fuck is on your feet"? Then he handed me over a pair of Nikes that were pretty much brand new. It was one of those moments where I wanted to cry”
This part is really great too. He’s talking about the invention of Shady—it was Proof’s idea, they originally wanted a big group, but when they couldn’t get the people they decided to create alter egos for themselves and make the group big that way. About coming up with the name:
“That name came to me when I
was on the shitter. Literally. I
was taking a shit and the name
just hit me. You know, you do
a lot of thinking when you’re
shitting.”
I could honestly go on forever. No lie. It’s an interesting read. Not long by any means, you can finish it in the same night, for sure. Love him, this extended that love if anything else.
This is the best! So many pages of his lyrics, so many. Fantastic. I live for this shit, so poetic. His lyrics are all over the place, bits and pieces of songs from forever ago! The last few are full length, copies of ‘Lose Yourself,’ jotting down on the set of 8 mile. So good. Gosh, so good.
One more thing and I’ll shut up. It’s so easy to think that celebrities have forgotten where they came from, forgotten then fans. Em says straight up,
“I thank you. Hailie thanks you.
Her college is paid for.”
Epic. Love. Read it.
