#9 The way you brand yourself online is more important than who you really are

It's 2010 so does it really surprise anyone that the internet and your internet personalities are so crucially important. You can find me several faces, at my twitter account, on facebook, at my photobucket and of course my dot com. With the popularity of social media, it is so crucially important that the way in which you portray yourself is an exact replica of who you are trying to be. This is not a plea to try and be someone else, someone unlike yourself. But if the real you doesn't realize the difference between "common" and "come on," the google it before it makes your status. With that said-- when you're writing, it cannot be literal dictations of what you are saying. This happens so many times and makes me absolutely cringe. It's one thing to be in a private msn conversation with a friend and invent words, but when potential employers see that you're using "could of" when you mean "could have," they will not only turn the other way, but laugh while they're doing it. No spelling isn't everything. And don't even get me started on grammar-- but if your facebook is crowded with pictures of you in a bikini or pouring vodka down your throat, you might want to clean it up a bit.

And there it is. To be entirely honest with you guys, I could printscrn a dozen images of my friend's list who have made gramattical/spelling errors that make me want to smack their first grade teachers; but the bottom line is, just freakin' proof read. Proofread everything you type before hitting send/enter. And remember,
you are what you tweet.
